Which smoothie blender is right for you?

There are several blenders that will make great smoothies for you and your kids, but some are better than others. Common blender brands include: Oster, Magic Bullet, Vitamix, Blendtec, Ninja, and Black & Decker but each blender has advantages and disadvantages. eSmoothie Recipes for Kids has researched each brand to help you make the decision that is right for you.

The Oster company began in 1924 by manufacturing hair clippers. Oster acquired Stevens Electric in 1946 because they saw great possibility in the small home appliance market. Oster has been producing quality blenders for almost seventy years now! Oster blenders come in a variety of colors including stylish stainless steel versions. Oster offers an impressive collection of blender accessories, including: a smoothie kit (a portable cup and lid that fit directly onto your blenders base), a mini jar (perfect for making and storing homemade baby food), the milkshake blade – a taller thicker blade, and myBlend sport bottles that also fit directly onto your blender. Oster blenders are affordably priced, ranging from $34.99 to $89.99. Oster blenders are loud, and their 3-part blending system is hard to clean.

The Magic Bullet blender is an infomercial success story. The Magic Bullet is a smaller blender with no buttons, meaning unlike traditional blenders, there is only one mode. To blend something using the magic bullet you just place the cup that comes with it on top of the base, and press the cup down. The Magic Bullet comes with several attachments and accessories, that may or may not be useful. Clean up is easier with the Magic Bullet because you can make & drink your smoothie in the same ‘bullet’. The Magic Bullet system ranges from $49.99 to over $170.

The Vitamix blender is a large blender that can be used for a variety of functions. The powerful motor has the ability to completely pulverize any item, making extremely smooth smoothies out of typically hard to blend items such as dry oats  and apple seeds. Vitamix believes in their blenders so much that they offer 30 day money back guarantee and a seven year warranty on their blenders. Vitamix blenders are loud, but because they are so powerful, they only have to be turned on for a short period of time. It can be difficult to scrape the smoothie out of the side grooves of the blender jar. The biggest disadvantage is the price: the Vita Mix blender retails for $449 to $649.

Blendtec blenders are very similiar to the Vita Mix. Blendtec blenders are a little bit smaller than Vitamix blenders, so they take up less counter space and can fit into your kitchen cupboard. The blender has squared off sides, which make it easy to scrape every last bit of smoothie into your cup. The Blendtec uses a high-tech system that automatically speeds up or down and shuts off when your smoothie is finished. The automatic mode choices are: ice cream/frozen yogurt, ice crush/milkshake, soups/syrups, sauces/dips/dressings/batters/, whole/juice, and smoothies, with each mode blending at a different speed to reach the desired consistency. Pretty cool, right? Blendtec blenders are loud, and pricy, ranging from $399 to $450.

Ninja blenders may be seen as a relative bargain, priced at $100, but this blender’s blades are not constructed in a way to puree solid fruits and vegetables. If you plan on making green smoothies, or even fruit smoothies with whole fruits, then this is not the blender for you.

Although Black & Decker is a widely trusted and available brand, the Black & Decker blenders did not have enough power to completely crush the ice in our smoothies. This blender is an affordable option at $29.99 to $59.99 if you rarely use a blender, but if you are planning on making smoothies I would choose a different brand.

So which blender is the best for making smoothies??

The Blendtec Blender, with its powerful motor, easy to scrape sides, and automatic mode options, is a bargain in the high-performance blender category, and will be able to easily make any smoothie you desire.

The best budget option to make smoothies is:

The Oster Blender, although this blender does not have the capability of the Blendtec, it is a fantastic option for smoothie lovers who can’t imagine spending $400 on a blender.
